Dr. Louis Panlilio is Chief of Chronic Pain Medicine at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and President of Maryland Pain Specialists, founded in 2003. He holds a certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Pain Medicine. He has extensive training and experience in performing minimally invasive treatments for painful conditions. He was one of the first fellowship-trained, board-certified physicians to offer state-of-the art pain treatment in the greater Baltimore area. With experience of more than 30,000 interventional cases as of 2019, his practice has focused exclusively on the diagnosis and management of painful disorders in a welcoming, compassionate setting. He served as the Director of the Acute Pain Service while at Johns Hopkins and he has been named one of the region’s Top Docs by Baltimore Magazine.
Dr. Panlilio has over a decade of experience performing percutaneous spinal cord stimulation and radiofrequency denervations, two invaluable treatments with substantial clinical evidence supporting their efficacy and safety. He trained at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and he has mentored residents and fellows training in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
A native of the Baltimore-Washington area, Dr. Panlilio is a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School. He completed an internship in General Surgery at the Washington Hospital Center and residency in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Following residency he obtained advanced fellowship training in Pain Medicine at Johns Hopkins. As a member of the Hopkins faculty he authored book chapters and original articles published in both neurology and pain management journals. He has lectured and led workshops at the Annual Multidisciplinary Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia Updates sponsored by Hopkins Pain Medicine.
Dr. Panlilio is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He has privileges at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center and Ruxton SurgiCenter. He is a founder of Maryland Pain Specialists.
Dr. Panlilio lives in Baltimore with his family. He is an avid fan of the Washington Capitals and, in his spare time, he enjoys travel, literature, and CrossFit. He is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.
